*** IT IS NOT A FEATURE OR FUNCTION OF MICROSOFT WINDOWS ITSELF TO TELL YOU THAT YOU HAVE A VIRUS ***
If you see a message that looks like it is coming from Windows telling you that you have an infection, that is a virus trying to trick you into giving it permission to install itself. Never click inside of these messages. Any click inside of one of these pop-ups is telling the virus, "Please install yourself, I give you my permission"
The best way to avoid virus and spyware problems is to adhere to the following advice:
Check for Microsoft Security Updates on a weekly basis. Use a reliable anti-virus program and keep it up to date. We like the Free AVG Anti-Virus. Never click a link in an unsolicited email. If you're interested in the site that is emailed to you, go to that web site yourself. Avoid file sharing programs such as Kazaa and Limewire. These programs contain adware and spread viruses. If you see a pop-up message on your screen, never click inside of it. Preferably, press Ctrl-Alt-Del and use task manager to end the task or click the 'X' in the upper right corner to close the window. Clicking anywhere inside of a popup window will give the intruder your permission to install their virus or spyware on your computer.
